Mr Howarth is a consultant neurosurgeon based in Nottingham with appointments at Queen's Medical Centre And Nottingham Children's Hospital. He provides a comprehensive range of advanced neurosurgical techniques including both paediatric and adult epilepsy surgery, paediatric tumour surgery, paediatric CSF diversion procedures and endoscopic techniques and adult complex spine work.

He is dual fellowship trained in minimally invasive complex spinal techniques and paediatric neurosurgery with an emphasis on complex epilepsy surgery, neuroendoscopy and tumour surgery.

In 2010 he was awarded a PhD from Cambridge University for his thesis on advanced MRI - based imaging techniques. He is widely published in many high impact factor peer reviewed journals and has been a presenter at many international meetings.

Mr Howarth uses the principles learnt on his fellowships in Melbourne, Australia as the basis of his neurosurgical practice. Principles centred on evidence based neurosurgery with the application of minimally invasive "keyhole" techniques when appropriate to minimise discomfort, length of hospital stay and recovery time. He has learnt state-of-the- art keyhole spine techniques including the TLIF and lateral fusion (see spinal fusion information.)
